I wish I could claim this as my own, for I think it is beautiful and true—two things I strive for in my writing—but the credit goes to an anonymous poet.
I asked for strength
and God gave me difficulties to make me strong.
I asked for wisdom
and God gave me problems to solve.
I asked for prosperity
and God gave me brawn and brain to work.
I asked for courage
and God gave me dangers to overcome.
I asked for love
and God gave me troubled people to help...
My prayers were answered.

Amen, my friend. We ask for simple trinkets, and he gives us the richest treasures. What a good God, to choose to make us even more than we asked to be.
